Album Description
Ekorce emerges back into the spotlight May 1st with an album on Gravitas Recordings, a cinematic journey through downtempo full of textured grooves and introspective melodies. From start to finish this album keeps the listener on the edge of their seat and ears perked from some of the most next-level sound design and production we’ve heard this year. Ekorce has always had some of the best mixing and production techniques we’ve heard in bass music. This album brings that technical ability to a whole other level while bringing forth contrasting emotional flows we rarely hear in the style. Fans of Tipper’s downtempo album journeys will truly rejoice at this one, and Ekorce is no stranger to this crowd after supporting Tipper across America on multiple occasions.
This album is the long awaited follow up to Ekorce’s previous EP ‘True Colors’ in 2024, which had an outpouring of support and was truly our favorite release of the year. Since then Ekorce has been pushing the production limits and embarking on new ideas to experiment with something fresh…
“After my last EP True Colors, which was deliberately luminous and vibrant, I found myself drawn to the idea of an album centered on the opposition between darkness and light. Over time, the album became less about choosing light or darkness, and more about understanding how both coexist and shape each other.” - Ekorce
‘Chiaroscuro’ opens up the album with a very psychedelic and textured atmosphere, with beautiful melodies and sound design flying around the audio spectrum. ‘Last Embers’ continues the lovely atmospheric tone, while bringing in drums and feels like it is building into something epic from start to finish. ‘In Two Minds’ breaks the tension that has been building since the start of the album in such an insane way, you have to hear for yourself we can’t spoil the journey. ‘Smoke and Mirrors’ takes a simple string instrument melody and slowly transforms it into an explosion of sound design bliss in the best way possible. ‘Blur’ really seems to fully bring in that contrast of emotional states with a melancholy tone while staying beautiful and heavy hitting and really pulls emotion from the listener. ‘Page Blanche’ keeps these vibes going while offering a more uplifting backing that truly keeps the listener wondering what is next while drumming broken beats keeps the energy flowing. ‘Beyond The Veil’ feels like something out of a sci-fi horror movie while still having an uplifting sound, truly the contrast Ekorce explains in his quote. ‘Ink’ begins to close the album by pulling back the drums and experimenting with experimental sound design and a dreamy atmosphere, seeming to tease a brighter future near the end. ‘Tremor’ elaborates on the sounds from the previous and closes the album in the most experimental way yet, truly fitting its name and leaving the listener wanting more and to truly understand what is next…
“Chiaroscuro explores the shifting spectrum between shadow and light, not as a binary opposition but as a continuum of emotional states. Like in painting or photography, darkness is not the absence of light but what gives it depth and intensity. The album moves through emotional gradients, revealing that every internal state is shaped by contrast, that clarity emerges from obscurity, and obscurity carries its own hidden glow.” - Ekorce
